Remove Conduit Search (Uninstall Guide)

Conduit Search is a browser hijacker that is commonly bundled with a variety of free software that you can download from the Internet. Conduit is considered a browser hijacker because it changes your web browser’s homepage  and default search provider to search.conduit.com without your permission.

What Is Conduit Search/Toolbar?

The Conduit toolbar is frequently categorized as a browser hijacker because it takes control of the Web browser and does things the user may not have specifically requested. For example, even if you set your homepage, Conduit will display its own site (search.conduit.com). Or when you try to get to Google or Bing to perform a search, the browser will redirect to Conduit Search (search.conduit.com). A toolbar will also appear at the top of your browser window.

Conduit it’s technically not a virus, but it does exhibit plenty of malicious traits, such as rootkit capabilities to hook deep into the operating system, browser hijacking, and in general just interfering with the user experience. The industry generally refers to it as a “PUP,” or potentially unwanted program.

How Did I Get the Conduit Search?

Perhaps you installed a free software that had bundled within their installer the Conduit Search, such as Language Learning, ClickDownload, DealFinder, Yontoo or FBPhotoZoom. Any of these products can install the Conduit toolbar. What’s even more likely is that you installed some other application which came with the Conduit search bar and you didn’t notice when it got installed—you failed to uncheck it as an optional ride-along during the install process of something you actually wanted. Several applications distributed on CNET’s download.com have Conduit Search bundled in, for example. When installed, it hooks itself into Windows, Internet Explorer, Firefox and Chrome, making it difficult to remove.
